David Michael Wilaj is a strategic economic developer, regional connector, and dedicated community leader whose passion for growth and collaboration is transforming Northeast Ohio’s business landscape. As Director of Project Management for Lake to River Economic Development, David oversees high-impact initiatives that promote expansion, attraction, and retention of businesses across a four-county region. His work bridges the gap between local communities, public and private stakeholders, and JobsOhio, the state’s private economic development entity, driving results through partnerships, site development, utility coordination, and infrastructure planning.

David’s journey began at Youngstown State University, where he earned both a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and a Master of Arts in Financial Economics — graduating summa cum laude and earning distinctions such as Beta Gamma Sigma Vice President and Leslie Cochran University Scholar. His academic foundation has shaped a career grounded in economic impact and data-driven strategy. Prior to his current role, David served as Director of the Mahoning Valley Logistics Council through the Youngstown/Warren Regional Chamber, working to strengthen regional transportation, supply chain networks, and logistics strategy with oversight from a board of industry leaders.

In his earlier role as an Economist and Market Research Analyst for the PRINTING United Alliance and NAPCO Research, David delivered custom reports to global industry leaders and presented at national conferences, gaining recognition for his insights on industry trends and market performance. Whether in front of a crowd or in the field coordinating site plans, David brings clarity, confidence, and vision to every endeavor.

David is also deeply engaged in community service, serving on the board of CASTLO Community Improvement Corporation, co-chairing the WRTA “Giving Small Business a Lift” initiative, and contributing to causes such as Akron Children’s Radiothon, Angels for Animals, and the Building a Better Belmont Coalition. He was recently honored as a member of the Leadership Mahoning Valley Class of 2024 and holds the designation of Ohio Certified Economic Developer, a testament to his knowledge, professionalism, and commitment to the region.
